Why Y-Europe?

Y-Europe was born out of one woman’s journey across continents, careers and life stages.

What started as a one-year move of a university administrator from Hong Kong to Germany to study for a Master’s degree in Higher Education Research and Development soon evolved into something much bigger. This initial academic detour led to her spending over a decade immersed in the heart of European policymaking – the so-called ‘Brussels bubble’ – where she worked as a policy analyst specialising in the international dimension of European higher education.

Eventually, life brought her back to Germany – this time not just as a professional, but also as a mother navigating the realities of cross-border remote working. Drawing on her blend of academic insight, policy experience and personal transformation, she founded Y-Europe, a boutique consultancy and a digital community, to support individuals and institutions on their cross-cultural, professional and educational journeys.

Highlight: Focus on Europe – Hong Kong

Dr Lam’s deep familiarity with both European and Hong Kong contexts enriches Y-Europe’s cultural and academic fluency.

We have targeted expertise in Europe (esp. Germany) – Hong Kong linkages. Based in Trier and actively engaged in Hong Kong, Y-Europe is uniquely positioned to build university – industry collaborations along this corridor.

Public policy advisory tailored to Sino-European frameworks. We support cross-border university – private partnerships shaped by evolving EU – Hong Kong, China policies, especially in higher education, culture and mobility.
